Dear Voters

My name is Rick Adams, and I’m running to be your State Representative. I’m a 32-year-old constitutional lawyer fighting back against the General Assembly’s attacks on Kentuckians’ civil rights. I proudly served as Deputy General Counsel for the Kentucky Democratic Party during Governor Beshear and Lt. Governor Coleman’s first term and re-election.

I’m part of the legal team that has defended Louisville’s Fairness Ordinance when it was attacked by conservative activists, protected voting rights so every Kentuckian has an equal voice in our democracy, and sued government agencies across the Commonwealth–run by Democrats and Republicans–to enforce the Open Records Act and hold our state government accountable.

If you elect me, I will take the fight from the courtroom to the General Assembly and be ready on day one. I will fight to defend women’s reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, fully funded public schools–and transportation to those schools!

To win on those issues, we need to grow the Democratic Party and win more seats in the General Assembly. We won’t do that with recycled ideas from glory days past because the challenges–and opportunities–we face today are different than previous generations. We need new leaders with fresh ideas to challenge the status quo and restore sanity to the General Assembly.

This moment demands a full-time Representative. My opponent already retired from the General Assembly. Before she left, she earned the worst attendance record in the House, missing 19 of 60 legislative days. She no-showed the critical, infamous vote to save teacher’s pensions from Matt Bevin’s “sewer bill.” Now, she’s trying to come out of retirement to represent us, but we deserve better. You can trust that I will be there–when it counts–to fight for our District and our values.

This campaign is about showing up, meeting our neighbors, and working together to make our community better. It’s time for a new voice in Frankfort. If you agree, sign up to volunteer or make a contribution at rickadamsforky.com, scan the QR code, or find us on social media. See you soon!

STATEMENT:

Rick Adams on the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

51 Years Ago Today, Women Were Granted Body Autonomy. Today, Millions No Longer Have It.

January 22, 2024

Louisville, Ky. - Today, Rick Adams, candidate for Kentucky State House District 41, released the following statement on the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

“Today is the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. For 51 years, Roe protected women’s fundamental right to access reproductive healthcare. Generations of American women benefited from that landmark decision.

Two years ago, the Supreme Court—in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Center— overturned half a century of precedent applying Roe and, for the first time, rolled back a previously recognized fundamental liberty interest.

Since Dobbs, Kentuckians have rejected extremist Republican views on reproductive healthcare twice. First, in 2022 when we voted No on Amendment 2. Then again, last year, when we re-elected Governor Beshear and Lieutenant Governor Coleman.

These rights are still on the ballot. We must send Democrats to Frankfort that will fight to defend Kentucky women’s civil rights and work every day to elect a pro-choice majority.”

STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY DEPUTY GENERAL COUNSEL FILES TO RUN FOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Rick Adams, Louisville-based Constitutional Attorney, to campaign for
House District 41

December 6, 2023

LOUISVILLE – Democrat Rick Adams, a dedicated advocate for progressive values, officially filed his candidacy today for Kentucky’s 41st State Legislative District, which will be open due to State Representative Josie Raymond’s announcement that she is stepping down as the District’s Representative to run for Louisville Metro Council.

“I’m running because I believe government should serve all Kentuckians,” Adams said. “I’ve spent my career in courtrooms across the Commonwealth defending our civil rights against an overbearing legislature and fighting to maintain transparent government and fair elections. Now I’m ready to take that fight to Frankfort and the General Assembly.”

Adams is an Associate with Louisville law firm Kaplan, Johnson, Abate & Bird. There, he was on the legal team that took on some of Kentucky’s most important constitutional litigation. He defended Louisville’s Fairness Ordinance when it was attacked by the Alliance Defending Freedom. He fought the Republican legislature when it passed unfair, gerrymandered legislative maps. And he has sued government agencies—run by Republicans and Democrats—to enforce Kentucky’s Open Records Act. During that time, Rick also served as the Deputy General Counsel to the Kentucky Democratic Party.

“By re-electing Governor Beshear, Kentuckians have proven that they are ready for the next generation of leadership,” Adams added. “We're going to move Kentucky forward. Together.”

Adams holds a bachelor’s degree from Centre College and attended the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law and graduated magna cum laude. After earning his law degree, Adams clerked for a federal judge in the Western District of Kentucky, where he witnessed firsthand the impact the laws passed by legislatures have on real people.

Adams lives in the Deer Park neighborhood with his wonderful wife Emma.
