Affordable Housing
Housing is the largest expense for most Kentucky families. Across our Commonwealth—in rural, suburban, and urban communities—it’s getting harder to make rent or save enough for a down payment. To bring down costs, we need more supply. That is Economics 101, plain old supply and demand.
40 years ago, a typical single-family home in Kentucky sold for about $35,000—about 2.5x more than the average teacher’s salary. Today, that same home will sell for about $255,000—nearly 4.5x what that teacher makes now.
That trend is only getting worse. Median home prices have jumped another $50,000 in just two years. And average rent in Louisville has skyrocketed to $1,300 a month—a 26% increase since 2020.
Democrats in federal, state, and local government have proposed innovative solutions to rising housing costs. As your representative, I will fight for fair housing policies that support sustainable development, promote competition, and reduce costs for Kentucky families.
